Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve

Dense forests and large rivers

Nkhotakota is the largest reserve in Malawi, covering around 1800 sq km with dense forests and pockets of evergreens over escarpments and hills. Elephants, lions, leopards, antelopes and buffalo all roam this amazingly undiscovered area. With over 280 species of birds recently recorded, it is also a paradise for birders. Perfect for a Malawi safari!

Be one of the first to explore this up-and-coming area to the west of Lake Malawi.  Walking in the dense forests or kayaking on the tree-lined rivers provides a complete contrast to the wide vistas of Lake Malawi.  You can stay in a luxurious riverside suite in this wild area in which eco-tourism is a key feature.
