Ethiopia

Travelling around Ethiopia is not without its challenges, but those that do will be richly rewarded.

It is a country that contrasts greatly with the images of famine and desert that many imagine.  It offers some of the most dramatic trekking in Africa in the breathtaking Simien Mountains, or Bale Mountains National Parks.  These parks are also home to some amazing wildlife, such as the hundreds strong troops of golden coated and placid Gelada Baboons, the rare Mountain Ibex, and Africa’s most endangered carnivore, the Ethiopian Wolf; all of which are only found in Ethiopia.

For culture and discovery Ethiopia has a lot to see.  You may wander through the rock-hewn alleys and wonder at the medieval churches of historic Lalibela, explore ancient tombs in Aksum, or venture into the wilderness of the Lower Omo Valley with its enthralling and diverse tribes people.  For real adventure you may brave the Danakil Depression, reputed to be one of earth’s most inhospitable environments where temperatures can soar to 50oC.
