Loose yourself on an island that time forgot! Superlatives are simply just not enough. Kaya Mawa has been variously described as “one of the planet’s ten most romantic places”, “paradise on earth”, “one of the World’s best lakeside retreats" and “one of the World’s most authentic ecolodges” ... and the list goes on.
Set in a stunning location, Kaya Mawa is a paradise of 10 stone-and-thatch cottages built by local craftsmen scattered around the south-west tip of the magical Likoma Island. The island itself remains almost untouched since the end of the nineteenth century after its discovery by Scottish missionaries. It is the perfect setting for a romantic holiday or honeymoon, or why not make it a really special family holiday? Swim or dive in the clear waters, explore the island on foot or by bike, watch the sunset over the "Lake of Stars" as you dine, or simply relax on your own private deck area at this exceptional Lake Malawi lodge.
![]() | The Lodge At the head of a crescent- bay, surrounded by ancient baobabs and mango trees, the lodge uses the stunning surroundings to create a lodge of unique character with a unique ambience. The multi-level lakeside bar and dining areas complete the magical setting. |
| Rooms From 2 bed individual private houses for familes or two couples, through luxury individual rooms on their own rocky knolls with private plunge pools. The rooms are en-suite, with four-poster beds, showers and sunken stone bathtubs.

Kaya Mawa Lodge was built in partnership with the local community entirely by hand, as there is no machinery available on the island.
The hot water system uses wood burning boilers with wood from Mozambique and is a community project, generating an income that is used for the upkeep of reforestation woodlots. Thousands of indigenous trees, as well as various fruit trees, have now been planted.
