The seasonal flooding by the Okavango waters draining from the Angolan highlands attracts one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of wildlife. The flood starts in March, peaking between June and August, which are Botswana’s dry months. The delta fans out into a shifting web of meandering channels, lagoons and islands before the clear waters gently soak away into the dry Kalahari Desert.
Game viewing is exceptional; boat and mokoro safaris adding a new dimension to the experience. Wildlife abounds – from herds of elephants and buffalo, to pods of hippos and prides of lions. Over 450 species of birds have been recorded.
Many of the lodges in the Delta are situated in private concessions, each offering a unique and personal experience for the ultimate Okavango safari and relaxing stay.
