KarooProject

Volunteer and Research Opportunities

Through this initiative NaturallyAfrica and The Nature College aim to provide the opportunity and support for scientists to carry out vital research work into areas such as biodiversity, threatened species, climate change and sustainable management practices.

Volunteers will participate in ongoing field research and will actively contribute to the work that is being carried out by the project to help us achieve our objectives. The scientific and social goals of the project, as well as the biodiversity of the region, will enable volunteers with a broad range of interests to develop skills and gain work experience that is relevant to them.

We also encourage proposals from students and researchers wishing to carry out dissertation work in the Succulent Klein Karoo.

The Project

Despite the critical nature of pressures on the natural environment in the Karoo, there are viable solutions that can maintain biodiversity while promoting sustainable development.

The objectives of the project are to:

  • Research, collate and report data on species of key importance in the Succulent Klein Karoo.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of the biodiversity of the Klein Karoo with communities in the bioregion.
  • Engage people from the local communities in conservation and research work and share knowledge, skills and ideas.
  • Conserve the biodiversity and encourage the sustainable use of the natural resources of the biome.
