Karoo Project - volunteer information The project is based on a 3400 hectare farm in the Klein (Little) Karoo, in a region classified as Succulent Klein Karoo, which makes it a desert region. It is situated 80 km from the coastal town of Stilbaai (Stillbay) and only 15 km from the mountain fynbos of the Langeberg range. The area is renowned for its succulent flora, and is particularly rich in plant, mammal, reptile and bird diversity. Volunteers are responsible for arranging their own international flights
and travel arrangements to the farm. However, we will be happy to provide
advice. The farm can be reached by road from Cape Town, taking the N2 until Riversdale, then the R323 to Ladismith. Bus services do operate to Riversdale and the fare will be approximately R200 one way from Cape Town. From Riversdale we can arrange transfers if required for a cost of R240 for a group. Groups of approximately six volunteers can be accommodated on the project at any one time. Costs Accommodation is either in tents with camp beds, or dormitories, and meals are provided. The total costs are £295 per person per week. This includes a contribution towards project costs. A discounted rate is offered for volunteers booking for 6 weeks or more. |
