Climate Zambia has three distinct seasons. In general December to April is warm and wet, May to August is cool and dry and September to November is hot and dry. The average summer temperatures range from 25°C to 35°C and in winter from 6°C to 24°C. Passports and Visas All visitors to Zambia must be in possession of a passport valid for at least six months after arrival. Visitors from most countries will be issued with visas at port of entry. Single entry visa fees for British Nationals are £35. A $20 departure tax is also payable at international airports and must be paid in hard currency. Time Differences Zambia is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, making it an hour ahead of Central European Winter Time. Money The currency unit is the Kwacha (K). Most hotels, restaurants, travel agencies and the bigger shops will take credit cards. Cash can be obtained from most of the major banks using a credit card. Cash can also be withdrawn from ATMs at Standard Chartered and Barclays Banks using a Visa card. Electricity Zambia's electricity supply is 220 volts AC 50 Hz. Malaria Please seek professional medical advice as to which course of anti-malarial medication, if any, should be taken before you travel. You will usually need to start the course a week or two before entering a malaria-endemic area and for four weeks after leaving the malaria risk area. Vaccinations Although Botswana does not require that you have any inoculations to enter the country there are a number of vaccinations that it is sensible to consider for travel to all destinations in southern Africa. Please consult a medical professional at least 6 weeks prior to departure. |
