In the north you have the vast open plains of the notorious Serengeti National Park, which also plays host to one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth; the wildebeest migration. Adjoining this is another of many visitors’ must-sees, the Ngorongoro Crater, with incredible wildlife and several different habitats all concentrated in the caldera of this ancient volcano.
However, the less visited Parks in the south, including Ruaha National Park, Selous Game Reserve and Katavi National Park, easily rival those in the north for wildlife and with the added draw that you will be sharing your safari with far fewer tourists, the latter still only receiving a few hundred visitors each year. This makes it the ideal holiday for the safari enthusiast, wanting to enjoy that feeling of true wilderness as much as the abundant wildlife.
It is little surprise that Tanzania has become synonymous with safari and adventure holidays in Africa. The Serengeti is often used to conjure up the romantic image of vast, untamed and wildlife filled African plains. The national parks available in Tanzania are truly exceptional, dwarfing those of most other countries both in size and reputation. A choice of travel options, from luxury fly-in to your own privately guided 4x4 adventure, or overland expeditions makes Tanzania accessible to those travelling on a range of budgets. Whatever your preference a holiday in Tanzania will sweep you up in a whirlwind of experiences that you will be sure to remember for the rest of your life.
For keen trekkers, or the adventurous traveller, Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, offers a real challenge. Trek from the plains that this ice-capped mountain towers over, through rainforest and across barren rocky slopes to arrive exhausted, but relieved and rewarded by the view at the summit. Look out across the vast range of Tanzania as you stand triumphant and return home from your holiday with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and a nearly visible glow, as you contemplate the wonders that you have seen on your trip.
You may want a little rest and relaxation after all this activity and Tanzania has some of the best beaches and of course the spice island of Zanzibar to unwind on white sands, gazing out over turquoise waters. This makes an ideal Safari and Beach break, or simply, a romantic beach holiday, or perfect choice for a honeymoon. If you still want more adventure activities Zanzibar has fantastic water sports, including great kite-surfing and scuba diving.
